This topic is set up for Calc I folks to add questions and comments to our review sheet for Exam 1 . All Calc I students should feel free to ask clear and specific questions about that review sheet. Better yet, students can post answers!
For question 1, when finding the derivative of f(x)=6^x and we get to the step of
(6^x * 6^h - 6^x)/h do we factor out the 6^x?
Yes - that’s right! So, what you get is then
6^x(6^h-1)/h.
So now, you can focus on just the (6^h-1)/h portion, that you have the table for.
for 3c) would the answer you accept be DNE or between -1 and 1?
It’s definitely DNE. As a rule, the limit should be one, definite number. If not, the answer is DNE.
When sketching the derivative, do we only worry about asymptotes when part of the function is a circle, like the one from question 8?
That’s an over simplification. A vertical asymptote will arise anytime the tangent line is vertical.
would the estimate for 1c) be 1.7917?
Yes! That would be acceptable.
