Questions on the review for Exam 3

This topic is for students to ask questions about the Review for Exam 3.

On question 5, for the positive area portion, would you be able to just use pi(sqrt2)^2 * 1/8 to get the area?

Maybe. Can you be more precise about what you mean by the “positive area portion”? I mean, all area is positive - right? Also, can you explain how you arrived at your value?

The picture below, for example, shows 3 regions of potential interest in that they are three regions bound between the pieces of a piecewise defined function and the x-axis. What region (or collection of regions) are you talking about?

In the picture that you have created, I’m talking about the blue and green portion. For the portion that is above the x-axis, could you use that previously mentioned equation?

Okay, thank you for the help!

For problem 6c would an acceptable answer be -cos(pi)-cos(0)?

No. That would earn partial credit but not full credit. I definitely expect folks to know and apply the values of the trig functions at the integer multiples of pi/2.
